Etiology

  • Trauma w/direct path of infection into joint, or systemic seeding

Symptoms

  • Infection w/in joint of foot or ankle can be so intense that causes diffuse edema
  • Also fever and systemic sx

Physical Exam Findings

  • Fever
  • Redness
  • Edema
  • Focused over dominantly affected joint
  • Pain worse w/any movement
