Etiology

  • Obesity
  • Vast majority also have OSA
  • Though most w/OSA dont have obsesity-hypovent
  • Labs indicate chronic compensated respiratory acidosis

Symptoms

  • Snoring
  • Obese
  • Daytime fatigue
  • Sob
  • Observed apnea/gasping at night
  • Poorly rested in AM

Physical Exam Findings

  • BMI > 30
  • Often significantly higher
  • Often elevated jvp
  • Edema→ right sided chf
