Etiology

  • Virus that can affect lower motor neurons

Risk Factors

  • Acquired in summer mos, most have no sx

Symptoms

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Stiff neck/back
  • Limb pain→ a minority of these develop flacid paralysis of legs, respiratory muscles

Physical Exam Findings

  • If LMNs affected, will develop: flaccid paralysis, areflexia, ultimately atrophy
