- Swallowed blood from upper respiratory source→ nose bleed
- Swallowed blood from oral bleeding site
- Meds can exacerbate any of above (warfarin, heparin, direct throbmin inhibitors, anti-plt agents, or anti-coagulant agents)
- Contribution from primary bleeding disorder
