Etiology

  • Some malignancies incite anti-body responses that target nerves
  • Associated most commonly with small cell lung or breast cancer
  • Also lymphoma, myeloma, MGUS

Symptoms

  • Neuropathy is often painful
  • May also cause ataxia related to impaired sensation
  • May also affect motor and autonomic function
  • Symptoms related to primary/underlying cancer

Physical Exam Findings

  • May have decreased peripheral sensation, pain w/touch
  • Impaired reflexes
  • Sometimes weakness, sensory ataxia
  • Findings related to primary/underlying cancer
